Discipleship is tough business. Dallas Willard calls absence of effective discipleship, “the elephant in the church.”
While no church handles discipleship flawlessly, at WTCC we are taking steps to pursue it with excellence.
Discipleship is essentially education—learning to live as Jesus lived. But discipleship is not merely an education of the mind it is an education of the entire person—mind, body, and soul. Discipleship includes the art of learning the Scriptures, but also involves the art of living well. The Bible calls this balance of head and heart, wisdom.
Because discipleship requires the connection of head and heart to life, at WTCC we believe effective discipleship begins on Sunday morning but never ends there. Our Sunday morning teachings set our direction for discipleship as a church, but because Sunday lacks time and individual attention we seek further discipleship through the following:
We are currently journeying through a series called Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and the Mystery of the Church. To explore the relevance of these or previous teachings in greater detail we provide study notes, discussion questions, and further reading at the link above.
Each month our children explore a biblical virtue that has profound application for their lives. Because we believe a strong community helps raise a strong child we invite all of our Life Groups to spend at least some time exploring the monthly virtue. Life Groups with young parents may find it especially helpful to spend time studying the virtue.
We are continually stocking our library with some of the best study resources available. We encourage our Life Groups to check out a study resources for up to three months at a time.
Occasionally we offer 4-8 week seminars that examine specific topics of need or interest. We encourage individuals and/or Life Groups to explore these training options as they fit their needs.
